ARCHIVE OF WASTED SPECIES (Porto/PT, 2018)Independent publication and installation presented in the exhibitions Desvios Situados (Museum of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto, 2018) and No Departures Without Arrivals (ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics, Berlin, 2024).
Wasted species are common species that germinate on vacant lots, in open fields, among the city’s debris and rubble. They come from the anonymous dumping of unknown individuals or take advantage of the distraction of on-duty weeding gardeners to germinate.
In this collector’s miscellany, a series of objects chewed and metabolized by the metropolis are brought together. Organisms with synthetic DNA, urban-shaped plants, letters germinated by unknown senders, seeds of obsolete technologies, nuggets of rubble, fossils of plastic bottles, skeletons of oxidized ore, grasses in an asphalt-green hue, …
What unites the various inventoried species is the place where they were found: the terrain of the São Vicente de Paulo neighborhood, a vegetated void of about 2 hectares located in the eastern part of the city of Porto.
The collected items are photographed and archived in a small open-binding book that suggests the possibility of including new species over time, given the unstable nature of the terrain.”
O Inventário também foi exposto no formato livro de luz na exposição Desvios Situados, Museu da Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, Outubro de 2018.
